Shuttle Discovery is making its way up the incline at Kennedy Space Center's launch pad 39A, marking a huge milestone in a campaign to launch NASA's next International Space Station assembly mission.
An Apollo-era crawler-transporter chugged down the KSC's historic crawlerway at about 0.9-mph, hauling the shuttle's mobile launcher platform and Discovery to the pad from the KSC Vehicle Assembly Building.
First motion in High Bay No. 1 of the VAB came at about 6:47 a.m., and the shuttle is expected to be hard-down at the oceanfront complex around 2 p.m.
Awaiting it at the pad: the U.S. Harmony Module, a multi-hatch module that will serve as the gateway to still-to-be-launched European and Japanese science labs at the station. The module will be installed inside the shuttle's cargo bay this week.
The move to the pad keeps NASA on schedule to launch Discovery and seven astronauts on Oct. 23.

You gotta love the timing of all this. disheartening headlines in the morning paper curiously timed with the shuttle making to to the Pad. All a coordinated effort to get strikers to cross the lines. It is actually quite flatering.
A labor dispute exists with the union representing employees in these jobs. Employment in these jobs may be with USA or a USA subcontractor. YOU WILL NOT FIND GOOD + 6 yrs directly related exp. folks at that pay that is a joke to think somebody would leave a job to work in a place that will cut him as soon as the strike is over and it will end with us back you all should not put much in yates she is miss information and the add is the same thing done to EGG in the last days of there strike so the letter from NASA boss is very good for us with a democrat gov to be in NASA will go and ask for more money and then USA will ask NASA fore more money but piss off the money men and it wont be there now the head of the space program wants us in to do the work and the head is not NASA but the house of science and technology NASA will kiss there butts and so will USA it would not be good to go against the real boss
DO NOT BET YOUR JOBS ON THE RESULTS BROTHER AND SISTERS.
WHAT IS "QUITE FLATERING" IS THE JOB NASA AND USA IS DOING.
THEIR PERFORMANCE IS GREAT THE COST SAVING IS HUGE.
CONGRESS SHOULD REVIEW THE COST DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMENTS.
