Big crowds, heavy traffic across Brevard

Crowds are jamming Florida's Space Coast on this launch day. Traffic is at a crawl along parts of Highway A1A. Florida Highway Patrol is reporting light congestion on State Road 528.

Titusville is packed as well with little room available for spectators at prime viewing locations there.

At Space View Park in Titusville, hundreds were in place by a little after 5 p.m.

By 5:30 p.m., there were long lines for bathrooms and food vendors.

Most people already had staked out their spots and set up camp with chairs. Families passed the time playing cards, reading books and eating.

Hilary High drove over this morning from Tampa with her husband and two children.

“It was a last-minute decision to come over here,” she said. “We figure there’s only a few more launches left, so we decided to make a family day of it.”
