The external fuel tank that's supposed to fuel the next shuttle is likely to leave New Orleans' Michoud Assembly Facility Saturday morning. However, it's rolling out of the processing facility today to be loaded onto the barge. A Saturday departure would likely put the tank at Kennedy Space Center around Thursday.
Officials originally said the tank would ship today, but some work was done on the tank last night, and the insulating foam had to cure for several hours. The barge crew is expected to leave in the morning, preferring daylight to setting out in the dark.
Read our stories today about the Michoud plant and its workers surviving Hurricane Katrina and saving the tank factory.
