GlobalFlyer being fueled

The GlobalFlyer team is fueling the aircraft on the dark runway at Kennedy Space Center. Four sets of high-powered flood lights are illuminating the airplane.

Steve Fossett is not yet on the runway, but about three dozen media, mostly photographers, are already out on the scene for this morning's 6:42 a.m. takeoff. Also on scene: Richard Branson, the British tycoon bankrolling the mission and a National Aeronautics Association official, who is responsible for certifying the airplane and flight conditions to legitimize Fossett's records.

The temperature, which the team says needs to stay at 54 or below, is brisk this morning. We haven't heard a ruling yet on whether or not it will be cold enough to fly today. However, a weather station at the shuttle landing facility is reading 52 as of right now so it's going to be very, very close.
