Earlier today, the crew recovered an on-board computer that had failed while they slept Thursday.
"I think we all looked at each other and had that bright-eyed, sort of bushy-tailed look and raced up to the flight deck," Atlantis commander Chris Ferguson said during a media interview this morning (left) about the alarm that rang 90 minutes into their sleep period.
"The folks on the ground did a nice job helping us get through that. We brought up another (General Purpose Computer) to help us out with the functions that (GPC No.) 4 was performing. We got it hopefully back up and running this morning. So it’s hanging in there and we’re confident it’s going to work for re-entry for us."
The computer failure was the second during the mission.
The shuttle crew is continuing to move and organize nearly 10,000 pounds of cargo that was brought up to the station and to pack a module returning home.
At 9:24 a.m. EDT, shuttle and station crew members will gather for a last joint news conference in orbit. The 10 astronauts and cosmonauts will take questions from reporters in the U.S. and Japan.
Today's mission status briefing has been move up to 10:45 a.m.

If I was on that shuttle, I would tell Mission Control that we are busy and don't have to talk to him. He didn't have time to save the moon project and keep people working here in Brevard County so why waste time with his photo op "courtsy" call of blabbering how proud he is of all of the shuttle's accomplishments and obvioulsy the crew as to sit there and smile and say "Thank you Mr. President" blah, blah, blah..
Exactly! What's he going to do...cancel manned space flight??!!
