Spacewalkers Poised To Install Boom On Station

Endeavour astronauts Mike Fincke and Greg Chamitoff are getting ready to attach an extension boom to the metallic backbone of the International Space Station -- the prime objective of their spacewalk outside the outpost today.

Fincke, who is wearing an all white spacesuit, is answering to the radio call sign "EV-2." Chamitiff is "EV-3" and is wearing a spacesuit with broken red stripes on its legs.

Moving hand over hand, the astronauts moved from the U.S. Quest airlock to the first, or innermost, segment of the starboard side of the station's 335-foot-long truss. Fincke got tangled up a bit in his safety tethers, but now is in place for the installation.

"No worries," Fincke told crewmates aboard the joined shuttle-station comple. "Let's get this party started."
