Man, I can see now why they killed the shuttle program. These people couldn’t launch a toy rocket. They are all incompetent.

Oh come on! What a pitiful remark. This launch has nothing to do with the space shuttle.

The ULA launch team consists of thousands of dedicated men and women. They are some of the best and brightest folks in the world. They work side by side with their customers - in this case, one of the most important agencies in our government.

And you, who made that miserable comment, can sleep safe and sound in your home precisely because of the hard work and dedication of the very folks you so disrespect here...

Shame on you...

Re Anonymous

Sorry you feel that way. However I am sure you have no idea as to what it really takes to get one of these birds in orbit. This is not just a ..push of a button....as that toy rocket you may have played with as a kid. I am sure your opion would change if something happened and ten of thousands pounds of propelent came raining down your house.

Well said, "Shame On You". People who work on space programs pour their soul into it. It's not a job to them, it's their life's work. I envy them.......... BTW_IMO

A question...why are missions 'scrubbed?' Is it wiped off the blackboard? I spent 23 years in the Air Force and couldn't answer this question when my wife asked...I know about why chalks are chalks but don't know about scrubbed vs canceled...thanks.

To clarify...I am asking about the etiology of the term...in case that wasn't apparent...thanks again.

You can admire them all you want. A doctor is still a doctor even if he/she barley passes med school. So, just because they are engineers, and dedicated to their jobs, doesn’t mean they are not incompetent. It doesn’t change the fact that either the people are incompetent or the processes are incompetent. But, considering they have so many problems, something is amiss. Yes, I know its complicated, but that’s why they get so much money and have thousands of people working on it, YET, OBVIOUSLY they can’t get anything off the ground, at some point someone must ask, why are we spending so much money and is there something we can do to make sure that the money goes to the right place and the right people that will do the right job the right way.

The way I heard it, the phrase "scrubbed" came from when World War II pilots in England had their names erased from a chalk board showing who was scheduled to fly, hence the board was "scrubbed."

It might be no more than a fanciful tale, but it's a good one.

To the poster @1:42. As far as shuttle is concerned and maybe Deltas I don't think one wants to spend the money to load the fuel and purge it again many times over and over to prove you are a go for a launch. That could possibly degrade the fuel system as well. Then they may have to change the tanks out again and may never launch. I'm sure everyone out there is sincerely sorry that they have inconvenienced you, but that’s how it works. Saying that there has seemed to be an abnormal amounts of setbacks to all launch schedules lately.

There's obviously a lot of incompetent rocket engineers or people designated to work on Delta IV. What better way to hold on to jobs than "DELAYS"
