Community Leaders Focus On Florida's Future In Space

A public forum focused on the Florida's future in space and technology will be held in Cocoa on Monday as community leaders come together to create a public policy agenda for the state's next legislative session.

Hosted by the agenda for the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Florida’s Space Coast, the forum will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Florida Solar Energy Center. The forum is open to the public and admission is free but registration is required. Go HERE to register.

The forum this year will be focused on diversifying Florida’s economy for the future. Local and national experts will talk about taking advantage of opportunities spawned by the ongoing transition in the U.S. human spaceflight program. Organizers aim to strengthen Florida’s role in the space program and craft a public policy agenda for action during the next legislative session.

Invited elected officials include U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, Florida State Senate President-Designate Mike Haridopolos, Florida State Senator Thad Altman, Florida State Senator David Simmons, Florida State Rep. Eric Eisnaugle, Florida State Rep. Ralph Poppell, and Florida State Rep. Ritch Workman.

Light breakfast will be served. The Florida Solar Energy Center is located at 1679 Clearlake Road in Cocoa, on the University of Central Florida/Brevard Community College campus. The event is co-hosted by the EDC, Space Florida, and Brevard County.

Why now to talk about diversification; this conversation should have been ongoing for years. You cannot economically survive when your two industries are space and tourism.

Amen and AMEN, Anon @2:28 PM. Tourism and retirees and service jobs are our future, just as they have been our past and currently are our present.

For years, smart, savvy citizens have voiced their opinions about this and were ignored or belittled by the powers that be.

Now, we reap what we sow. Rockledge has the right idea. It is becoming more of itself...a dying community to support the dying. There's a hospice opening on Eyester, right down the road from a convalescent home and a few blocks away from "medical center row". It's all covered. There are apartments across the street for the family to rent while their "loved one" is indisposed; there's a subdivision of single-family homes right around the corner and 3 convenience stores in close proxemity...one right across from the hospice!

Can a funeral parlor and cremation center be far behind? One-stop shopping! See? City's new motto? "Rockledge has you covered". Barton Blvd has gambling parlors and dollar stores, too. All needs met.

Yowza! Quit yer bitchin' Titusville and Cocoa, and follow Rockledge's lead!!

Hard lessons learned. Or maybe not. We certainly don't learn from others mistakes. We have to make our own and make em big!!

Republicans have a solution "More Tax Cuts for the Rich" Rich republicans are loving these jobless days, they say "No" to you keeping your house or feeding your children. More Tax Cuts to Trickle Down. Love it while voting. Trickle, Trickle, Trickle and Bush shut down the shuttle but never raised Taxes.

Wow...I live in Rockledge and that one rant was bizarre.
If that's all you see in Rockledge.... you gotta get out more. And get a life.

Everyone's quick to throw insults at political foes, the aerospace industry, state, and county governments and even at your fellow citizens in forums like this.

But you read through pages and pages of comments on these forums and nobody brings any solid suggestions to the table. Just complaining. I hate to say it, but this is what we Americans are getting to be known for. Loud rhetoric and no action.

I found the "rant", as you call it, @7:18 AM, to be quite informative. What an interesting perspective. Where are your facts disputing it? At least the person you call a "ranter" gave facts. Wins hands-down in my book. Driven down Eyster lately? Offer fact to dispute the "ranter". State an item in the so-called "rant" that is not true.

And your solid suggestions are?

Right. You don't have any.

You state the comment is given to "Loud rhetoric and no action". Where is your action? What have you done? You judged without experience. The comment at 3:09 is accurate and factual. Dispute it with fact.

I'm sure your next post will be that there is no unemployment problem here. Grow some cojones, sir, and state fact, like a big boy. Then, perhaps, you will be taken seriously. Until then, you are part of the problem.
