Augustine panel releases summary report

The presidential panel studying the future of U.S. manned space flight delivered an executive summary of its report to the White House today.

"The White House has received the Augustine Committee's executive summary and we thank the committee for its hard work," said White House spokeswoman Gannet Tseggai. "The president has on numerous occasions confirmed his commitment to human space exploration, and the goal of ensuring that the nation is on a vigorous and sustainable path to achieving our boldest aspirations in space."

The final report is expected sometime later this month.

"Once we receive the final report, we will release it to the public and move swiftly to review the options put forth by the Committee," Tseggai said. "The President will consult with senior advisors, including the NASA Administrator, before making his final decisions."
