U.S. Sen. George Lemieux did not mention President Barack Obama by name, but did use his commencement speech at Florida Tech's graduation ceremony today to blast the White House's space strategy.
Urging the Tech graduates not to give up on American leadership in space exploration, the Republican senator from Orlando characterized the White House's proposed NASA budget a non-plan and a half-plan.
"I am working to ensure that the Space Coast continues to play a major role in human space flight," he said during the ceremony Friday in Melbourne.
"Now is not the time to abandon human space flight and cede our leadership to Russia, China or India. I don't want to have to explain to my children why those countries are on the moon and we are not."
"This is not the time for a half a plan," he continued.

Lemieux: what a jerk! His entire contribution to our nation has been as a political hack. Never elected to anything. And slamming the first intelligent space plan since Apollo. Jerk.
He didn't explain why George Bush killed the Shuttle, which is finally working amazingly well, to go back to a primitive capsule that falls into the ocean yet would cost more than the Shuttle to fly. Killing the Shuttle has cost us our jobs, our community, and our leadership in space.

I really really hope thats what comes to pass.Constellation should NOT be KILLED.America must lead the journey back into deep space.And the others follow.
We will find out that keeping the Shuttle flying will be cheaper and safer than the commercial approach, but unfortunately it will be too late.

Obama is the "Destroyer of manned space flight". Obama does not believe in manned space flight, if he did, the Space Shuttle program would have been extended and 25,000 people would not become unemployed.

There seem to be many false conservatives online here... the U.S. Government sponsored space program in both its civilian (NASA) and military (DoD) configurations IS BIG GOVERNMENT.
Someone mentioned that Obama lacks experience in "wealth creation." How much wealth has the U.S. taxpayer created by funding all the contractors over the years on everything from Mercury to STS?
The simple fact is that the Space Race pitted one government against another. We have a "voluntary" tax system and the Commies had their "voluntary" system too.
You cannot be against big government, Obama, funding cuts and FOR Ares and a worthless return to the Moon and call yourself a Conservative. STS is an expensive trip to nowhere and a relic of the MOL and DoD driven strategic defense initiative era. That era is over.
