Live in Orbit: Bathoom committee to meet

A troubleshooting committee of engineers is meeting to solve the trouble that has flooded the water separator pump in one of two space station bathrooms, Brian Smith, International Space Station flight director, said.

The station crew can use the second toilet in the Russian part of the station. Shuttle Endeavour's crew can use the bathroom on the shuttle.

"For the time being we've deactivated it," Smith said. "It could turn out to be of no significance at all."

Engineers could not tell whether the vacuum toilet has malfunctioned, been overused or improperly used.

"It's still way too early to tell exactly what caused the problem," Smith said.

NASA engineers expect to have the problem solved before it becomes critical.

"We not ready to say this is a long-term problem," Smith said.

The Integrated Cargo Carrier was moved from the shuttle to the station truss today. Parts on the carrier will be installed during future spacewalks.

With no gravity this problem could get very very messy.

Ask the Big Bang Theory team; they've tried to fix this once before!
