During a Webcast 3:30 pm, Todd Halvorson, FLORIDA TODAY KSC bureau chief, interviewed Joe Oliva, Ares I-X program manager for ATK, who discussed the upcoming major test-flight for the NASA program aimed at sending astronauts back to the moon.
"All these pieces are sitting in the Vehicle Assembly Building right now," Oliva said. "Differing from the Ares I though, we are flying a heritage four-segment rocket motor."
An empty segment will extend the length of the motor.
"That will simulate the size of the five-segment rocket motor," Oliva said. "The second stage is completely simulated."
