Update at 8:50 a.m.: Weather forecast remains 70 percent "no go" today because of expected clouds and thunderstorms. Countdown proceeding in case weather does clear.

United Launch Alliance this morning has moved the mobile service tower away from the Delta IV rocket that is set to launch a new weather satellite this evening.

Weather remains the chief concern this morning as the launch team continues to step through a countdown toward a one-hour launch window that opens at 6:14 p.m.

The latest weather forecast calls for storms that could produce lightning, a danger to the rocket and the spacecraft. There is a 70 percent of weather stopping launch, but the launch team and 45th Weather Squadron at Patrick Air Force Base are keeping a close eye on conditions. The latest full version of the forecast is here, and should be updated later this morning.

The Delta IV is scheduled to launch a Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES), which will monitor weather systems across the western hemisphere and provide advance warning of flash floods, tornadoes, hail storms and hurricanes.

We'll have live coverage all day. Remember, you can sign up for text message alerts from today's countdown at floridatoday.com/text.

Also, check out this morning's print newspaper stories about the mission. They included a profile of an engineer on the project as well as a look at the delays in the GOES program.
