A Delta IV rocket won't launch on time today at 6:14 p.m. because of a thunderstorm centered west of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The countdown just entered a planned 15-minute hold at the T minus 5-minute mark.
Launch managers will extend the hold indefinitely to try to wait out the weather and reset a new liftoff time if conditions improve.
The launch window extends until 7:14 p.m.
Joel Tumbiolo, Delta IV launch weather officer with the Air Force's 45th Weather
Squadron, said lightning was still active within the nearby storm cell, prohibiting launch of a next-generation weather satellite.
No technical problems are reported.
