Atlas V set to launch tonight

UPDATE: The weather forecast has improved for tonight's launch. The 45th Space Wing's Weather Squadron shows a 70 percent chance of conditions suitable for launch today, up for 60 percent earlier.

A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, carrying the Global Wideband SATCOM-2 spacecraft, is slated to take off at 8:31 p.m. tonight.

The 192-foot rocketis carrying an advanced military communications satellite called Wideband Global SATCOM-2, or WGS-2, which will assist troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It will lift off from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The launch window extends until 9:33 p.m.
