Live in Orbit: Busy day starts with Cash

Click to refresh for the latest from NASA TV.

On what promises to be a busy mission day, the seven shuttle astronauts awoke today to Johnny Cash's "I walk the line."

The song, piped in at 8:43 a.m. by Houston's Mission Control Center, was for mission specialist Steve Swanson from his wife, Mary.

Swanson and Discovery's other six astronauts docked Tuesday with the International Space Station.

"We're looking forward to today and getting that S-6 on its way," Swanson said.

Starting around 11:15 a.m., the crew - seven shuttle astronauts and three station residents - will use station and shuttle robotic arms to lift a 31,000-pound girder called the Starboard 6 truss, from Discovery's payload bay and position it near the end of the station backbone's starboard side.

That daylong operation will leave the truss in position for the final connections, set to be made during the mission's first spacewalk Thursday. Swanson, together with astronaut Ricky Arnold, will be the first spacewalkers.
