A giant Delta IV Heavy rocket is thundering toward orbit tonight after a brilliant nighttime launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
The 24-story rocket turned night into day as the vehicle arced out over the Atlantic Ocean and rumbled toward orbit.
Liftoff time came at 9:47 p.m.

Man that was awesome..... I live in Auburndale (between Winter Haven and Lakeland) and could see the engine burn all the way till seperation!!! I love it!! Many thx go to The Flame Torch for the mobile and internet updates.
Thank you so much for putting the launch online so I could see it while in Iowa! So disappointed to have missed the launch while in Cocoa Beach on the original launch time but this helped. It WAS AWESOME!
We were out 2+ miles offshore on the Las Vegas gambling boat. The boat hung was directly in front of the launch pad when the rocket launched. It was awesome to behold. WOW ... we watched the rocket for about three minutes ... and BOY did the rumble of the sound hit us. AMAZING!
