The countdown for Atlantis' Thursday launch began at 5 p.m.
An Air Force weather forecast shows a 60 percent chance of unfavorable weather during the 2:45 p.m. launch. The mission could be delayed by rain, clouds and possible lightning.
However, skies would clear quickly and forecasts show an 80 percent chance of favorable launch weather on Friday.
