Pad crews prepare for tanking test Tuesday
The rotating service structure will be withdrawn from around Atlantis at 9 p.m. today in preparation for Tuesday's tanking test, which will be covered live here in The Flame Trench.
Fueling the external tank will begin at 7 a.m Tuesday for the 13-hour test to determine what made low-fuel sensors give faulty readings that scrubbed launch attempts on Dec. 6 and 9. The next Atlantis launch is scheduled for Jan. 10.
Current measuring instruments similar to those used to test cable television signals have been spliced into the low-fuel sensors wires. The sensors shut down the shuttle engines if fuel runs low during a flight.
