NASA astronaut Scott Parazynski had a little trouble locking his boots into a foot restraint at the end of the orbital inspection boom, which is latched on the end of the station's robot arm.
But station flight engineer Dan Tani and Discovery mission specialist Stephanie Wilson now are hoisting the solar wing surgeon up nine stories to the ripped blanket that he'll try to mend.
"I think we're off to the races," Parazynski said just before the lift began. "I think we're ready to go do this."
NASA spacewalk officers expect the move up to the damaged solar wing to take about 45 minutes to an hour to execute. Headed off to a point a half-a-football-field away from the U.S. Quest airlock, Parazynski will be afforded some unprecedented views.
"This is going to be a great ride," he said. "I'm looking forward to this."
