Discovery crew gets first night's sleep in space

After checking out the robot arm and downlinking photos, Discovery's crew will go to sleep at 5:38 p.m.

They will wake up at 1:38 a.m. on Wednesday to face a busy day.

By 6 a.m. the Discovery crew will be using the shuttle robot arm to survey the thermal tiles and wing leading edges for damage. They will focus on tiny scratches in the silica carbide in three places on the wings' leading edges.

NASA managers do not believe the flaws will cause a fatal problem on re-entry, but they want to carefully study the scratches, which occur on all three orbiters and could be the sign of a developing problem with all three orbiters.

Docking with the International Space Station is scheduled for 8:33 a.m. EDT Friday. The crew is tasked with five spacewalks during the 14-day mission.
