Weather 60 percent favorable for Thu. launch

Technicians completed attachment of the nosecone fairing over the Dawn spacecraft at Launch Pad 17-B. The fairing protects the spacecraft from friction and heat as the rocket speeds through the thick atmosphere on its way to space. The Delta II rocket will separate from the spacecraft shortly after an hour in flight.

Today's weather forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of favorable conditions on Thursday morning for the liftoff of the Dawn spacecraft, which will visit a rocky asteroid and a dwarf planet. The window to launch the mission runs from 7:20 a.m. to 7:49 a.m. EDT.

The chance of favorable weather rises to 80 percent if the launch is delayed 24 hours.
