Endeavour fires engines and will land at KSC today

The space shuttle Endeavour has fired its engines to slow the spaceship down by more than 250 mph, allowing the spaceship to begin to fall out of orbit.

The spaceship will flip from its tail-first flying position and descend through the atmosphere over the next hour, an on irreversible course for the Kennedy Space Center. Landing will be at 12:32 p.m. on the Shuttle Landing Facility.

The three-minute firing appears to have gone flawlessly.

Plans are for an approach from the south. They'll fly over the South Pacific, cross over Costa Rica and head toward far southern Florida.

The ship will first cross into Florida just west of Miami and then follow the Atlantic coast line en route to the spaceport.
