NASA late Thursday started stacking the first of two solid rocket boosters that will help propel shuttle Atlantis on a planned Aug. 28 launch to the International Space Station.
Crane operators lifted the aft booster assembly of one of the two segmented rockets and placed it on a mobile launch platform in high bay 3 of the Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building. An external tank will be fitted between the boosters before the orbiter Atlantis is mated to tank-booster stack on July 25. Rollout to launch pad 39B is scheduled to take place on Aug. 1.
