Discovery safely inside VAB

The space shuttle orbiter Discovery moved from its processing hangar at Kennedy Space Center to the VAB this morning, beginning about 11:12 a.m. The move took about an hour and the orbiter is safely inside the mammoth assembly building.

The orbiter is being readied now for mating to its external tank and solid rocket boosters.

That work begins today and will take about a week. Rollout to the launch pad is set for next Friday. Launch remains scheduled for July 1.

The photograph of workers escorting Discovery during rollover this morning was taken by FLORIDA TODAY's Michael R. Brown.
