Discovery mounted on launcher platform

The orbiter Discovery now is in place atop a mobile launcher platform in the Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building, where contractor technicians are mating the spaceship with an external tank sporting twin solid rocket boosters.

The fully assembled shuttle is tentatively scheduled to roll out of the 52-story building about 2 a.m. Thursday. Its destination: Launch Complex 39B.

NASA still is targeting July 1 for the launch of Discovery on the agency's second post-Columbia test flight.
