Cosmic mirage caught by Hubble

Just when you think the universe is getting a little stale, the Hubble Space Telescope people release a picture that makes us see it in a whole new way. Today, it's an amazing image that shows the effects of gravitational lensing. The gravitational field around a cluster of galaxies multiplies what we see, so it seems as if there are five quasars instead of one. The effect has been seen before, but this is the first time scientists have seen it produced by a cluster of galaxies. The "lens" has multiplied images of other galaxies, too. We're posting the annotated image so you can get a better idea of what you're seeing.
