NASA contractor technicians eased the external tank for the agency's next shuttle mission onto a transporter in the transfer aisle of the Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building today.
The work was carried out by a team of technicians operating a 325-ton crane high above the floor of the 52-story building. A group of spotters stationed at various levels of the building assisted.
The lift clears the way for the completion of work associated with the changeout of suspect fuel-depletion sensors within the tank. A Flame Trench item posted March 10 contains more details.
