Pink dawn at launch site

Now the dawn is breaking pink and blue over the famous launch pad at Baikonur that hosted Laika the space dog and Yuri Gagarin so many years ago, along with so many Soyuz crews. The crew is now on board after receiving well wishes from priests and officials at a processing facility at the Russian-run Baikonur Cosmodrome.

"We are not just the crew members now," Pavel Vinogradov said. "We are friends, and we feel mutual support. We are sure in each other. We trust each other, and this is very good grounds for our successful work."

Jeff Williams said they were ready for the job ahead of them. "We look forward to taking Marcos (Pontes) to space with us for the first time, and I would just like to express again my thank you to everybody on the team. ... We are literally taking you all with us."

The launch is just over an hour away.
