The thruster burn to slide Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter into orbit around Mars has started. The spacecraft, flying at more than 10,000 miles per hour, is performing well. Everything remains on track for a successful insertion into Mars orbit. The craft's speed is increasing as it closes in on the desired altitude above the red planet. Another round of celebration broke out in the control room, then quickly subsided as the team began closely monitoring this critical phase of flight.
