Fifth craft joins Mars armada

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has established two-way communication with ground controllers on Earth, and the data show the craft is in orbit around the planet Mars. Congratulations, high fives and hugs abound in the control room.

The world now has six spacecraft at Mars: two rovers still roaming the surface and now four satellites. The team is still waiting for more telemetry from the spacecraft to learn the precise condition of the spacecraft.
