NASA Targets Nov. 1 And Feb. 26 For Final Two Shuttle Launches

NASA officials today approved new target launch dates -- Nov. 1 and Feb. 26 -- for the agency's final scheduled shuttle missions.

The new target dates were established after a two-week review by various shuttle project offices. They represent the first and best opportunities for NASA to launch the STS-133 and STS-134 missions.

The official approval of the dates was made during a Program Requirements Control Board meeting.

Discovery will launch Nov. 1 on a mission to deliver a permanent storage module to the International Space Station. The previous target was Oct. 29.

Endeavour will launch Feb. 26 with the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, a cosmic ray detector and collector that will be fixed the station's central truss. The previous target was Feb. 28.

If they keep pushing back the launch dates, they don't have to lay off any workers.
