Watch Live: OCO Failure Briefing

NASA has scheduled a briefing no earlier than 8 a.m. EST today to discuss this morning's failed launch of the Orbiting Carbon Observatory satellite.

You can watch the briefing live by clicking on the image on the right side of the page to launch a NASA TV viewer.

The satellite blasted off atop an Orbital Sciences Corp. Taurus XL rocket at 4:55 a.m. EST from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The spacecraft's protective fairing apparently failed to separate in orbit, dooming the two-year, $273.4-million mission.

More details to come.

The OCO mission was intended to map carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere and improve climate change predictions.
