Rollout pushed back to 6 a.m.

Shuttle Discovery will remain in the Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building until early Sunday because the weather forecast shows that thunderstorms and lightning still could sweep through the area tonight.

The fully assembled shuttle -- an orbiter, external tank and twin solid rocket boosters - had been scheduled to emerge from the 52-story assembly building around 8 p.m. tonight.

The plan now calls for engineers to return to their stations at 3 a.m. Sunday, and first motion now is scheduled for 6 a.m. Sunday.

The 3.5-mile trip normally takes about six hours to complete, so if all goes well, the shuttle should creep up onto launch pad 39A around noon or 1 p.m. Sunday.

Discovery and seven astronauts are scheduled to blast off Oct. 23 on a mission to the International Space Station.

At our meeting today, we were asked to provide emails for the House Representatives that signed the letter to United Space Alliance. Upon doing some research, I found out that many Congressmen don't have a direct email, and most of those that do, reject emails that are outside of their district without reading them.

On Monday we will contact the Legislative Department, whose hard work we can thank for getting the Congressional support for the letter, and we'll find out the best way for everyone to send thanks to those Congressmen who supported us, and the best way to contact local legislators to see where their support is.

Until then, here's the Congresspeople and their states:

Bart Gordon of Tennessee, Chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee
Mark Udall of Colorado, Chairman of the House Space and Aerospace Subcommittee
Jerry Costello of Illinois
David Wu of Oregon
Nick Lampson of Texas
Mike Ross of Arkansas
Steve Rothman of New Jersey
Ben Chandler of Kentucky
Charlie Melancon of Louisiana
Brian Baird of Washington
Lynn Woolsey of California
Brad Miller of North Carolina
Dan Lipinski of Illinois
George Miller of California
Al Green of Texas
Russ Carnahan of Missouri
Harry Mitchell of Arizona
Charlie Wilson of Ohio
Gene Green of Texas
Laura Richardson of California
Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas
Chet Edwards of Texas

Amazing isn't it.....some folks who can't settle a contract for themselves will try anything. So since NASA, a goverment agency, was sued by the union for supposed interference, does this mean that USA can now sue congress for interference. Oh wait...that's right, it's just a letter. I am sure by now Covey and company have already sent it to the shredder. Amazing how when Florida needed help with fuel prices nobody could be found. When Florida needed help after hurricanes no one gave a damn. When Floridians needed help trying to reign in the insureance blood suckers nobody jumped out threre to help. But when a union won't negotiate in good faith...the grass is crawling with folks looking for vote supports who will put thier democratic names on anything. Thanks for the list of names by the way....now I can start an email campaign against these crap heads who could give a damn about the rest of Florida and our problems....politicians will never change.....full of hot air and never there when you need them....and most of what they do nevers helps anyway....just like this useless letter....what a joke.....

All this after two months and it still cracks me up.

Oooohhhhh, the union says that there close to getting the mediator to have the fun folks all come back to the table.

Scenario: USA walks in, Union walks in, USA offers same contract less signing bonus, Union rejects, both sides walk out. Wash, lather, rinse, repeat....nothing changes.

Oooooh and now the union folks are gonna travel here all the way from O-town to show all that solidarity....by the way, where have they been for the last two months.

Scenario: New and old union folks standing on the line waving to the folks who apparently acoording to this blog could care less. Replacement union folks leave and go back to a/c hotel rooms at union expense, strikers still on the line, wash, lather, rinse, repeat....nothing changes.

I guess you could call me cynical. Back in the day maybe but now I never really understood the purpose of a strike line. The only people standing on it are the strikers. The non-union folks who drive by don't really care about it. The company management they're striking against sure as heck doesn't care about it. Some say it's a show of solidarity. But to who....the union folks? I mean, they are already on the line supposedly supporting each other. I mean really, is this suppose to somehow effect the feelings of the companies management. 5oo or so workers out of what, about 10,000. I just don't see the point of the strike line if it's just to give the union folks a warm fuzzy. I mean really, in this day and age, a strike line, not really a big deal and don't see any real purpose. And to the haters, don't even start with the, "well if you were part of the union" line. I have seen every side so you can't tell me any thing new. Been a IAM member, been a non-union member, been on the management side, worked with contract proposals, and even worked union bargaining. All sides do the same amount of smoke and mirrors.

Here, let me lay it out for you in simple terms, the union wants as much as it can get no matter how it affects the profit margin as they think they are owed it; the company doesn't want to give the union folks anything new, and will try to chip away at the present contract any way they can. Both sides will try to repeatedly use the same trump words....there not negotiating fairly. Of course, unless the strike requires the president of the united states to step in, then according to the NLRB, negotiation is not an item that can be forced from either side. And since this is not one of those presidential scenarios, wash, lather, rinse, repeat...nothing changes.

Oh, by the way Mr Kelly, your opening statement was incorrect and needs to be changes.
Quote" Striking machinists will stage a rally at the gates to Kennedy Space Center today in a bid to shore up support for a work stoppage that has taken crane operators and other key personnel off the job at the nation's prime spaceport." There was no work stoppage, replacement workers are filling in, the union folks are just simply on strike....

Interesting isn't it....just like I said...both sides are crooked as each other...both sides asked for what they couldn't have....and both sides got nothing. Now the union has a, wow, letter. real impressed there. Notice how there were no Florida folks name on that...and don't rush out to get them....it won't make a difference. USA will probably now cite outside interference to the federal mediator...who is really enjoying the free flights and floor shows. NOTHING changes....and nothing will change...except both sides will and have lost out. USA will lose talent, the union will lose jobs. Like I said before...rinse, lather, wash, rinse, and again.....repeat.

Hey no that was brilliant statement. They had better find out who thier bosses were. Well the folks that signed the letter aren't. What they are is a bunch of democratic politicians that have most all taken contributions from the IAM union...so thier signatures have basically been bought and amount to nothing. And all the pressure they could muster would not effect USA as the only place they could direct it would be at NASA and I seem to remember a lawsuit filed by the IAM against NASA for interference in the contract negotiations so USA could turn around and do the same thing and keep the whole mess in the courts until everone is all old and gray and the entire space program has gone away. By the way...did you notice that the 1 billion dollar request from the goverment was denied today and that money was DIRECTLY slotted for the sustaining maintenance for in between programs so guess what...nobody will hav a job in a few years on KSC so the entire strike and associated BS from both sides is all useless and moot!!!
