Obama Will Be At KSC For Endeavour Launch

President Obama is planning to attend the April 29 launch of shuttle Endeavour on its 25th and final flight -- a mission being commanded by the husband of critically wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, administration officials say.

Veteran astronaut Mark Kelly and five crewmates are slated to blast off from launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center at 3:47 p.m. April 29. Kelly is hoping that Giffords will be able to attend the launch. She was shot in the head during a Jan. 8 assassination attempt in Tucson that killed six people -- including a nine-year-old girl and a federal judge -- and wounded a dozen others. Giffords is recovering in a rehabilitation center in Houston, Texas. Both NASA and her doctors are making travel plans, but a final call on whether she will be able to attend the launch is pending.

The visit will mark Obama's second trip to KSC in the past year. Obama visited KSC on April 15 last year to rollout his new plan for NASA and the U.S. space program.

The Obama administration directed NASA to invest in the development of commercial space taxis to ferry astronauts to and from the International Space Station. Space station operations are being extended to at least 2020, and NASA is setting its sights on developing a heavy-lift rocket and a crew exploration vehicle for missions beyond Earth orbit.

Grow up. It doesn't matter who's POTUS, it's always great when they come to town. Whether it's the senile Reagan, the patrician Bush 41, Clinton or the vapid Bush 43 (who actually set in motion the end of the shuttle program). Shuttle's run it course, get over it. It's about mission, not sustaining the local employment base. Shuttle has no practical mission, other than as an overpriced space truck. Let the commercial businesses do the work. They can do it faster, cheaper and just as safely as NASA.

Good luck Endeavour and crew for a smooth launch and return.God bless our President who saved us from anouther depression.

Obama is not welcome at KSC or by it's workers. It was a year ago on April 15th when he came to KSC, hid from the workers, and killed our Human Space Flight Program. This was after he lied to the KSC workers during the campaign saying he would close the gap and preserve Constellation.

Now we have nothing after Atlantis flies in July, and we will not see an American Astronaut fly on an American ship for at least 10 years.

Obama is a liar and coward. If he decides to use the KSC workers for a photo op during this visit, I hope the workers refuse and turn their back on him.

If anyone is a liar, it's Random230. Obama never said he would keep Constellation going. The video of his Titusville appearance is on YouTube to prove you're telling a lie.

As a "KSC worker," I welcome him. He saved the U.S. human space flight program by killing a program that would have forced us to splash the ISS into the ocean in 2015 to pay for a rocket being built ... to go to the ISS.

If I'm lucky enough to cross his path, I will gladly shake his hand and thank him.

I'm a worker at the space center, and I'm very honored that the President is visiting us for the launch. He is an honorable man who deserves the support that REAL Americans are proud to give him.

Most of the loudmouths commenting on this news sound like cowardly traitors who aren't fit to live in this great country of ours. Get over yourselves and get over your Obama Derangement Syndrome. Buncha crybabies!

He needs to drive through Titusville and witness the distruction his decision caused. Make no mistake, the shuttle program was always slated to end and Bush took them to the next level. Billions spent and testing all for nothing. Obama comes in and trashes the whole program. We (America) no longer lead in Space.

No can do Space Ghost. He is singlehandedly destroying our country. Some cannot see it yet but they will. Did he inherit a bad situation? Sure. But he has made a mess of cleaning it up. He doesnt get a pass from me.

Let him stay in Chicago, where he belongs.

At least now he knows how to say astronaut corps. Smartest president ever!

He's coming for the launch as part of his political campaign for President. If Rep. Gifford is able to attend to see her husband off, there will be lots of people watching just for that reason. He will be there to take advantage. The man could care less about space exploration or the people that support it.

I wonder if the workers will scub it on purpose.

Let's show and tell that POS what we think of him at the main gate!

Call me petty, but this is the first time I have hoped for a rain delay. I don't really want to "share" the beauty of a launch with the one who is most responsible for the effective elimination of the American manned space program - or at least our ability to send a man into space.

Why was it moved from the 19th to the 29th the day of the Royal wedding that he was so not invited too????? It is all political BS. Wonder if this means that they will cancel Atlantis?
