A supply-filled Russian cargo ship is closing in on the International Space Station this morning, winding up a two-day trip from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The Progress 39 space freighter is starting a fly-around of the station and will be heading toward a 7:58 a.m. docking at the aft end of the Russian Service Module.
Tests earlier showed that the automated docking system designed to bring the spacecraft in to a safe arrival at the station is working properly. A loss of telemetry during a July 2 docking attempt for the Progress 38 vehicle prompted that robotic cargo carrier to fly by the international outpost. It docked without incident two days later.
