KSC back open; Discovery to roll Thursday

Kennedy Space Center has reopened after workers recovered pressure from a broken water main that kept thousands of employees home this morning.

Rollover of the orbiter Discovery to the Vehicle Assembly Building, which was planned this morning, has been rescheduled for Thursday at 6:30 a.m.

Crews have isolated a break in a 24-inch iron pipe near the assembly building and turn basin that runs out to the shuttle launch pads. The pipe is said to be an older one, but the cause of the break has not been determined.

Certain facilities in the Launch Complex 39 area, including the Operations and Support Building-2 and the press site, still do not have use of bathrooms and drinking water. Bottled water will be supplied and alternative restroom sites provided as necessary.

The center is open again for today's second shift, though the majority of roughly 14,200 employees work the first shift and were told to stay home today.

The KSC Visitor Complex will reopen Thursday at 9 a.m.

Yes. No water for fire systems, bathrooms, chiller systems, etc. If it ran on water it was shutdown. The line that ruptured was the main supply line for KSC. This means no water. OSHA does not allow a facility of this size to run without the systems I mentioned before. I dont care if your KSC or Walmart. You dont operate without these systems. Besides it was fixed in less than a day we have the best facilities group in the industry.

Yes it did. Everyone needs water...including you. Be thankful your water supply was not shut off today. That's when you will really appreciate it.

Only because the crappers did not work, technology aside, when you have to go, you have to go, as crude as it is.

Yes, even the most advanced facilities are affected by the aging infrastructure. It's only going to get worse with the budget cuts.

the worst thing is that bathrooms will be open but the sinks will be closed........ so you will not beable to wash your hands afterwards...... Talk about trying to maintain a clean level....... They should open it up after pottable water is restored.........

Check out USA's press release....... no washing hands tommorrow.... hope no one is touching flight hardware.....
