Rice: Plan in the works to soften economic blow

A 40-person Aerospace Career Development Council has already been working on a plan to soften the blow of layoffs by creating and bringing jobs to the area, Brevard Workforce President Lisa Rice said. Their ideas include:

1. Working on a coordinated business approach. That means each business would know what others are doing and pull their resources together.
2. Creating a "repository of information" that would allow all community members to know the steps being taken.
3. Work regionally. That means working with leaders outside of Brevard County.
4. Comprehensive marketing of the talents and skills of displaced workers. "We believe that if we are able to express what this talent looks like to enough businesses, to the right businesses, that we will be able to bring those (businesses) here to this area," Rice said.

Now, Lynda Weatherman of the EDC is introducing panelists for the "Current Reality" discussion.
