Delta Rocket Launch Pushed Back To Thursday

The planned launch Wednesday night of a Delta IV rocket and a military communications satellite is being delayed 24 hours as a result of stormy weather that is expected to sweep into the Cape Canaveral area.

The United Launch Alliance rocket now is scheduled to blast off from Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 7:22 p.m. Thursday. The launch window that day will extend through 8:43 p.m.

The launch had been slated for 7:21 p.m. Wednesday. However, forecasters said there was an 80 percent chance rain showers and strong squall line thunderstorms would force a delay. A cold front now swamping parts of the southeast U.S. is expected to push the bad weather into central Florida Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening.
