Former astronaut is candidate to run Florida State

Norm Thagard, a former NASA astronaut and now professor at the Florida State University, is among the candidates to become that school's next president.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports
that 17 people have applied to replace retiring FSU President T.K. Wetherell, including several members of the faculty.

Thagard, who flew aboard the space shuttle on four missions and for an extended tour on the Russian space station Mir, is currently an associate dean of the school of engineering at FSU.

Isn't it something that his own home town, Jacksonville (He graduated from Paxon Senior High School - now Paxon School for Advanced Studies on Norm Thagard Boulevard), has not even breathed a word of this in any form.
