Obama nominates new NASA inspector general

This just in from Gannett's Bill Theobald:

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama today nominated Paul Martin to be the new inspector general for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Since 2003, Paul Martin has been the Deputy Inspector General at the Department of Justice. From 2001 to 2003, Martin served as the counselor to the Inspector General, and previously served as special counsel to the Inspector General from 1998 to 2001.

Before that, he spent 13 years at the U.S. Sentencing Commission, originally as a special assistant to the staff director when the Commission was formed in 1985, and later becoming the Communications Director and Deputy Staff Director.

Martin began his career as a investigative reporter with The Greenville News in Greenville, South Carolina. He holds a B.A. in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University and a law degree from Georgetown University School of Law.

Martin would replace Robert "Moose" Cobb, who stepped down in April after facing years of criticism for his close ties with Bush-era NASA officials and for his mistreatment of his staff.
