Live In Orbit: Spacewalkers Ahead Of Schedule

Endeavour astronauts Dave Wolf and Chris Cassidy are suited up in the U.S. Quest airlock at the International Space Station, preparing to head outside the outpost on an excursion aimed at replacing batteries that have outlived their warranty.

Shaped like a giant Genie bottle, the airlock now is being depressurized and leak checks so far are going as expected. The astronauts are running about a half-hour ahead of schedule, so the spacewalk could begin around the bottom of the hour.

Lead spacewalker Wolf is answering to the radio call sign EV-1 and is wearing a spacesuit with solid red stripes. Cassidy, a former Navy SEAL making his first spacewalk, is EV-4 and is wearing a suit with barber-pole red stripes.
