Live at KSC: Endeavour "Go" for Saturday Launch

NASA mission managers today gave space shuttle Endeavour a unanimous "go" for a 7:17 a.m. Saturday launch, and the countdown is proceeding smoothly.

"We're not tracking any issues," Shuttle Launch Director Pete Nickolenko said during a noon news conference at Kennedy Space Center.

There is a 90 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for the liftoff from launch pad 39A, according to Air Force forecasters.

"The weather does look very good for launch," said Shuttle Weather Officer Kathy Winters of the 45th Space Wing.

If the launch is scrubbed on Saturday, the local forecast remains excellent Sunday and Monday, but fronts could affect emergency landing sites overseas.

Seven Endeavour astronauts, led by mission commander Mark Polansky, are scheduled to fly a 16-day mission to the International Space Station that will include five spacewalks.

Their primary goal is to complete assembly of Japan's Kibo science lab complex.
