The countdown to today's 5:12 p.m. launch of an Atlas V rocket has entered a scheduled 30-minute hold at the T minus 2 hours.

The countdown is expected to pick up with fueling of the Atlas V booster and Centaur upper stage.

So far, engineers have verified communications links between the Launch Control Center and the Air Force's Eastern Range, which handles vehicle tracking and range safety for Space Coast launches.

Communication with tracking satellites also has been verified, along with flight control systems and radar systems on the 19-story Atlas V.

The Atlas V's common core booster is powered by kerosene and liquid oxygen, the Centaur by liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen.

The launch vehicle is carrying no strap-on solid boosters.
