Spacewalkers

Spacewalkers Rex Walheim and Stan Love disconnected their spacesuit umbilicals at 9:13 a.m. EST going on battery power, which officially began their 6.5-hour spacewalk - the first of three planned for the mission.

Walheim wears a spacesuit with solid red bands. His helmet camera is No. 16. Love's suit has broken red stripes. His helmet camera is No. 18.

"You can see the thermal cover is open and you are 'go' to egress," Pilot Alan Poindexter told the pair.

Walheim, on his third spacewalk, and Love, on his first, will attach a grappling device to the Columbus module so the European laboratory can be moved to the space station.

Before Columbus is installed, Walheim will check the mating surfaces on the module and the space station's harmony module. Motorized bolts will connect the module to the space station.
