A diversion: What's this on Mars?

The Internet is buzzing about these pictures, which were snapped in 2007 by one of NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers.

The British press went bonkers first, followed by others overseas, and now bloggers and web sites in the United States are picking it up.

Why? Folks are asking about the weird-looking figure in the far left of the image (two close-ups appear here). Some say it's humanoid, prompting all kinds of strange speculation and stories.

To us, this just looks like another rock-crop formation like countless others we've seen in the thousands of images captured by the intrepid rovers. The sizes and shapes have been endless, but we're curious what you think of the picture. This is just rocks ... right?
