Crews ready to install soldered connector

Technicians soldered suspect leads to a pass-through connector that is ready for installation today.

Technicians are awaiting approval from a meeting of NASA managers today to begin installing a pass-through connector with soldered leads in the external tank attached to shuttle Atlantis at pad 39A.

The connector and installation crew are ready to begin work, NASA spokesman Allard Beutel said.

The connector is believed to have caused intermittent signals from low-fuel sensors in the liquid hydrogen tank that scrubbed launch attempts on Dec. 6 and 9.

NASA managers were not expected to set a launch date today. Atlantis is expected to launch in early February on a mission to deliver the European Columbus module to the International Space Station.
