Countdown begins a minute before noon. Fueling begins shortly afterward. Mobile service structure was moved by 7 a.m.

GLOBAL POSITIONING SATELLITE

The GPS constellation (24 satellites) provides navigation and precise timekeeping to hikers, boaters, motorists and the military.

  • 12-story rocket
  • 4,540-pound Navstar GPS satellite
  • 11,000-mile orbit.

    The launch will be "The Lucky 13th" for United Launch Alliance, a Boeing and Lockheed Martin venture for Delta and Atlas rocket programs. ULA employs 812 on the Space Coast, about a fifth of its workforce.

    This will be the eighth ULA launch in 94 days.
