Live in orbit: Spacewalk preps ahead of schedule

Discovery astronauts Scott Parazynski and Douglas Wheelock are suited up inside the U.S. Quest airlock at the International Space Station, preparing to head outside on the first of five spacewalks planned during the shuttle's stay at the outpost.

Running about a half hour ahead of schedule, Parazynski and Wheelock are starting to depress the tunnel-like crew lock of the airlock and could be embarking around 6 a.m. EDT.

Parazynski, a veteran and lead spacewalker on the shuttle crew, is wearing a spacesuit with a solid red stripe on its legs and will be answering to the radio call sign "EV-1." Wheelock, who will be making his first spacewalk, is wearing an all-white spacesuit and is "EV-2."

The astronauts aim to prepare the U.S. Harmony module for delivery to the station. They also will retrieve a broken radio communications antenna and prepare a solar array truss for relocation later in the mission.
