The joined crews of Discovery and the International Space Station will stage a grand opening of the U.S. Harmony module today while preparing for the second of five spacewalks planned during the shuttle's stay at the outpost.
Look for the astronauts to open the hatch to the newly arrived module around 9 a.m. EDT. Then the outfitting will begin.
The equipment within the module is held down by more than 700 bolts -- fasteners designed to make sure everything in Harmony would survive serious vibrations encountered during a shuttle's thundering ascent into orbit. Each must be removed.
The internal outfitting of the module will take up most of the day and then the astronauts also will take time for a few media interviews around 2 p.m. -- three hours after the daily mission status briefing.
